Director: Jesse Dylan
This is a great example of where simplicity can work in favour of a complex narrative or a choreographed crescendo-ing dance number. Originally meaning to be a fully cast, scripted piece, the final edit became a chance for Derrick Tuggle, an “actor/musician/part time security guard” (MTVNews), to show off some moves. And we are all very thankful.
Without going into too much depth, the director’s attitude of ‘just dance to this song when we say go,’ along with the honest brilliance of Derrick T’s jerks and swings and fist pumps, is what makes this something special. It meshes with the tone of the song without effort, and will leave you wanting to throw some shapes yourself.
I will say no more. Hitting play again now.
