Review: Vince Staples “Senorita”

Vince Staples delivers a provocative video for the stark and disillusioned “Senorita”, a blistering short woven in social commentary. Directed by Ian Pons Jewell, the video carries a grey scale aesthetic matching its sinister tone. Vince strolls through a assortment caricatures, archetypes of a deprived ghetto. Rent girls proposition him, hillbillies drunkenly lounge in their front yards and a tattoo ridden Convict clutches a bible, whilst spouting Future’s gospel. Things transpire to reveal these stereotypical characters are no more than caged animals, exhibitions for upper class families watching the danger and frill of the “hood” from a secure, safe environment. Purely for entertainment.
