Years & Years having been tearing up the music world lately, having just received a ‘Sound of 2015’ award from the BBC, and they now release their new Music Video for “King”. Directed by up-and-coming Director Nadia Marquard Otzen, who has already started making a big name for herself in the industry.
The video sees lead singer Olly Alexander trying to escape the clutches of a seemingly invisible force, encapsulated by dance group choreographed by the insane Ryan Heffington (Sia’s ‘Chandelier’). As we progress through the various environments Olly Alexander finds himself in, he realizes no escape through the video and is beautifully overcome and eventually drowned by the dance group towards the final sequence of the video. Intercut with shots of Alexander pulsating around a room alone we get a glimpse into the eerier side of this video and hopelessness we all sometimes feel at the hands of another. The video is poignantly directed by Otzen but even more beautifully shot by Dustin Lane. One to watch.
