Review: Earl Sweatshirt “Grief”

Directed by one of our favourites here at One Thousand Eyes, the Hiro Murai video for Earl Sweatshirt’s “Grief” matches the sinister track with an equally dark visual, quite literally. Using black and white thermal vision, Hiro Murai creates striking images presenting Earl and peers as white spectral like beings, with the affect ranging from surreal to terrifying. The simple yet provocative aesthetics really reinforce the paranoid, self conflicted nature of the songs sonic motif. Hopefully we’ll get to see more Murai helmed visuals from Earl’s upcoming LP “I Don’t like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside”. Have a peek at another one of their past collaborations below.
